Our Story

In Seattle, making your home on the lake is a timeless retirement idea. Always was and always will be.

More than half a century ago, members of the Lutheran Council of Seattle-King County, a Washington State nonprofit organization, envisioned an engaging retirement community that would make people of all faiths and backgrounds feel at home. Their dreams came true and the Hearthstone has been serving seniors and their families for over 50 years.

Construction began in 1964, and the Hearthstone welcomed its first residents in 1966. Since then, our neighborhood community at Green Lake has been a harbor of serenity for people who value friendship and engagement as much as care and nurturing. Through the faithful dedication of the staff and leadership team, the Hearthstone offers an environment that is both relaxed and dynamic. Ask anyone who resides here now—from the former teachers, physicians and engineers, to the attorneys, soldiers and pastors, from long-time residents to recent empty nesters. They will tell you that the Hearthstone goes the distance to make it possible for you to enjoy retirement at its fullest.

Village Cove, an expansion of the Hearthstone opened its doors in 2015 offering a modern and independent lifestyle. Our new retirement living community features luxury one- and two-bedroom apartments situated on Woodlawn Avenue in Green Lake, one of Seattle’s most engaging neighborhoods. It is just one block away from the Hearthstone. Village Cove is designed in a contemporary, urban architectural style with spectacular features and amenities such as full-size kitchens with stone countertops, expanded cable service with Wi-Fi, a washer and dryer in each home, secure underground parking, 24/7 staff availability, with housekeeping, maintenance and utilities included. Village Cove is a pet-friendly community.
